The much-awaited Onam Tourism Week kicks off in Kerala today, turning the capital city into a vibrant hub of celebrations, culture and traditional cuisine. The celebration features more than 3,000 artists, with around 35 programmes set to take place across the State.
P C Vishnunadh, Tourism Minister, Kerala, said the state is witnessing strong tourist interest during the Onam season. The Tourism Department has taken several measures to make this year’s celebrations more attractive to both domestic and foreign visitors. Traditional art forms and folk culture have been given special emphasis this year, reflecting the growing interest among tourists in Kerala’s cultural heritage.
A major attraction is the food festival at the Sooryakanthi Exhibition Ground, featuring a wide range of authentic Kerala dishes and delicacies. Around 15 stalls representing different regions of the State will operate throughout the festival week.
The week-long event, which began on August 24 at Kanakakunnu Palace, will conclude on August 30, with a grand pageantry in Thiruvananthapuram, bringing the colourful Onam festivities to a spectacular close.
